For 175 years, the Sisters of the Holy Family have witnessed Venerable Henriette Delille’s legacy of love in their ministry to some of New Orleans’ most vulnerable citizens. Today, as the Sisters formally prepare to celebrate this milestone in their history, New Orleans Catholic Cemeteries are proudly partnering with them to restore the orders tomb in St. Louis Cemetery No 2.
The tomb is the final resting place of their foundress Venerable Henriette Delille whose cause for canonization is currently before the Vatican’s Congregation for Saints. Her contemporaries and co-founders Juliette Gaudin and Josephine Charles are also interred in the tomb, which will undergo restoration efforts in the coming months. The restoration team will be led by Joseph Connor, Assistant Director of Operations for New Orleans Catholic Cemeteries, with the hopes of being completed in time for a special service honoring their foundress in November.
