Archbishop Philip Matthew Hannan, established the Office of Catholic Cemeteries in 1966 to manage the Ministry of the New Orleans Catholic Cemeteries, whose Golden Jubilee was on June 29, 2016. Prior to that time, cemeteries were owned and operated by individual parishes or organizations.
